About The Partner

Nestled along the shores of Lake Mendota in Wisconsin, the Village of Maple Bluff is home to a close-knit community that enjoys outdoor recreation year-round. With six parks covering over 13 acres, residents and the local Parks & Recreation team recognized the need to replace their aging, rusted bike racks with something more durable, and more reflective of the village’s identity.

The Challenge

The existing bike racks in Maple Bluff’s parks were outdated and deteriorating. Curt Erikson, Recreation Director and Deputy Treasurer for the Village, led the charge to find replacements that would:

  • Provide a cohesive, uniform look across parks
  • Be customized to reflect the character of Maple Bluff
  • Coordinate with existing site furnishings
  • Include a unique, themed design for Beach Park—the village’s largest green space

The Solution

From concept to installation, the project moved efficiently, just six weeks from approval to completion.

Curt appreciated that Madrax offered more than off-the-shelf solutions. The ability to accommodate highly specific design requests, thanks to our in-house engineering and fabrication capability, was a game-changer.

“Top of the line in terms of appearance,” Curt said. “The product speaks for the company’s quality.”

  • Maple Leaf Bike Racks: Based on Madrax scenic bike rack design, custom end loops were added and laser-cut components featuring the iconic Maple Bluff maple leaf were integrated. The racks were powder coated for durability and visual appeal.

  • Muskie Fish Bike Rack: Inspired by a previous custom shark rack, this one-of-a-kind piece was tailored for Beach Park and reflects the regional connection to freshwater fishing. Like the others, it was finished with a durable powder coat.

After design approval and funding confirmation by the village board, the Madrax in-house fabrication team brought the vision to life with precision and care.

The Results

A year later, the maple leaf and muskie bike racks are still going strong. “They’re working really well, with no sign of winter wear or visible scratches,” Curt reports.

The custom bike racks have become a favorite among residents and visitors alike—regularly in use and adding a distinctive touch to the village’s parks. Curt wouldn’t hesitate to partner with Madrax again for future projects.
